Cute and Casual St Patrick’s Day Outfits

I’ve always been one of those people that love themes- be it party, menu, or outfit. And holidays are always a super fun theme to inspire creativity in all three categories- but especially in clothing.

As I have gotten older, though, my take on different themes has changed a bit, especially with my approach to holiday expressions in my wardrobe. I feel like younger me liked to be bold, trendy and punchy, while now I favor a more subtle nod to the holiday spirit. I like to play into a holiday theme in a way that feels more classic and natural to my style- almost like a little secret that only those keyed-in to the details are privy to discovering.

For a holiday like St. Patrick’s day, I love to lean into the holiday theme of using green. But I’ve found that the key to relaxing those greens into a more natural look that suits my normal style is the use of secondary colors that complement and enhance it.

So today I thought I would share my favorite colors to pair with a classic green, and a few outfit ideas from my own closet to inspire you in your Irish focused festivities this year, whatever that entails.

Some of my favorite colors to pair with a classic green are: navy blue, mustard/tan/caramel/khaki, dusty pink, orange/rust, white, and black.

1. Green Barbour with blue jeans, hunter boots and a white button down

Two of my favorite go-to brands for the rainy spring and fall seasons are Hunter rain boots and Barbour Jackets.

Both are so tough and functional, while effortlessly exuding this old world feeling of timeless cool-girl chique.

Pair a green Barbour jacket with a trusty pair of blue jeans, hunter boots and a timeless white button down for a casual outdoor gathering, or your first forays into the spring garden again after a long winter.

2. Green blouse with white pants, Caramel blazer and Chelsea boots

For as long as I can remember I have loved wearing button up shirts and blazers. These two timelessly classy wardrobe staples always give me that “boss-babe”, conquer-the-world type energy.

For this outfit I paired white jeans with a tan schoolboy blazer from J. Crew and a simple olive green blouse. I love the details in this blazer-from the sharp tailored cut, to the beautiful tan striped lining, and the elegant, shiny, embossed gold buttons.

For the shoes I went with a classic Chelsea boot– another durable and reliably-chique staple for those cold transition months from winter to spring.

The bag was a leather tote that I got engraved a few years back and I’m still obsessed with.

Wear this outfit for a casual Friday at work, or going out with friends.

3. Green maxi dress with pointed flats and a denim jacket

Whenever I wear a maxi dress, I always feel like I’ve been transported to a Jane Austen novel. Especially when it gets windy like it did when we took these photos on a walk around this peaceful cemetery near our home.

I love how versatile maxi dresses can be, depending on how you choose to style them.

For this look I wore a maxi dress that I got from The Loft a few years back. I decided to go more casual- pairing the dress with a denim jacket, black velvet pointed mules and a matching handbag.

4. White dress with heels and a green silk headband

If I’m ever wanting to feel aristocratic- big blousy white puff sleeves always seem to do the trick.

This outfit was so simple and easy to put together, but expressed such an effortless sense of class and sophistication to it.

Wearing a simple, but vocal, white button up collared dress from H&M, I paired it with heels, pearls and a silky green headband from TheKnottedShop for a high end look.

Wear this outfit to an art gallery or to visit a classy neighbor and talk about your horses and which of your houses you’ll be visiting next weekend.

5. Moss Green Skirt with a white blouse and tan headband

For me, nothing says beautiful, soft and feminine like a delicate white blouse. Especially when there are tulip sleeves involved! This blousy top was actually a hand me down from my mother who got it from the Loft.

The skirt for this one almost doesn’t count as green for how subtle the color is, but it does say “moss green” on the tag, so it officially falls in our green category, and it’s just lovely and comfortable-it even has pockets! This skirt from Downeast Clothing Co. looks so beautiful paired with a cream colored blouse, and this tan headband from TheKnottedShop on Etsy.

This outfit is perfect for a day at the office, or brunch with the girls.

6. Green hoodie with black joggers, camel coat and a favorite baseball hat

Where I work it’s professional business attire, so when I get home, or on the weekends, I like to change into comfy casual wear as quickly as I can so I can go outside and play with my dog and not worry about ruining my nicer clothes.

For this outfit I paired my favorite green gym hoodie with a pair of outdoorsy Columbia hiking pants/joggers, black dressy sneakers, a camel coat, and a favorite baseball hat I stole from my husband.

This would be the outfit you would most likely see me wearing on the weekends, at the dog park with my pup or running errands for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner party.

7. Black raincoat with leggings, and green detailed floral tunic dress

Where we live March is a very volatile season. Some days it’s snowing, others it’s sunny, and every once and a while Utah realizes that there’s this thing called Spring and it send us some rainy weather in-between.

These are the days I love the most. Growing up in lush, green Belgium and Humid Virginia and New Jersey and then moving to a desert- I really miss my Spring rain seasons here.

So when I get one of those nice overcast, rainy weather days, this is what you’ll find me wearing.

For this outfit I kept the green influence very subtle with a floral detailed black tunic dress from Old Navy, leggings, and my favorite London Fog raincoat, paired with a natural heel to keep it interesting.

I hope this post inspired some fun ideas for both what to wear and some fun things to do for your St. Patrick’s Day this year.

In the spirit of the season, I’ll leave you with an Irish blessing that my husband always quotes to me-

May the road rise up to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! If you need me, I’ll be chowing down on some corned beef and cabbage with the people I love.
